Indiscernible Zones 不可见区域  [2018]

We as humans, seem to immerse ourselves in the artificial world - a human-centric world. While disregarding the fact that we are part of the nature, we abolish the past and where we came from. We as a species, overthrowing our own meaning as human with machines and data - a post-human era is here. 

Indiscernible Zones probes a non-human vision with non-narratives of its structure. By relying mostly on chances with light and 16mm film, the film appropriates footages of A Story of Water (Une Histoire d’Eau), by Jean-Luc Godard & François Truffaut, and coins with distortion, obstruction and hand-painted materials. With the irrational sense of exploring light, color and montage, the film brings out the uncertain, intertwined relationship between human and nature.

Are we so different from the non-human animals and vegetations? Where are the fine lines of better intelligence equaling the better life form? Are we dreaming about being the center of the universe and the highest power (while artificial intelligence does not even need to have consciousness to beat up human intelligence)? These overlapping zones of human and non-human are indiscernible and more outstanding than ever.

作为人类,我们似乎沉浸在人造的世界中无法自拔——一个以人类为中心的世界。我们无视我们是大自然的一部分的事实,并且摒弃了我们的历史和起源。我们作为一个物种,用机器和数据颠覆了我们作为人类的意义——一个后人类时代到来。

《不可见区域》用非叙事性的结构探讨了非人类的视觉。主要依靠手动的随机光线,并结合了扭曲、遮挡、拼贴和手绘的手法去挪用和重组了让-吕克·戈达尔和弗朗索瓦·特吕弗的短片《水的故事》。影片以探索电影中光线、色彩和蒙太奇的非理性感觉,揭示了人与自然之间不确定、相互交织的关系。

我们与非人类的动物和植物如此截然不同吗?优越的智人和非智力的生命形式之间的细微界限在哪里?我们是否在梦想成为宇宙的中心和最高的力量(而人工智能甚至不需要有意识就能击败人类的智能)?这些人类和非人类的重叠地带是难以辨别的,而且比以往任何时候都更加突出。
